Cockatoo is a town in Victoria, Australia, 48 km south-east from Melbourne's central business district. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Cardinia. With 4560 residents, Cockatoo is named after Cockatoo Creek, which runs through the town, and which the town was previously named. Cockatoo has a community shopping centre which includes supermarket, butcher, pharmacy, clothing store and various takeaway stores. ServicesThe Cardinia Shire Council provides a mobile library service at the McBride Street carpark on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. The town has received a state government grant to start a community garden site on the Pakenham Road reserve growing various fruit and vegetables. Cockatoo Primary School, near the town centre, recently celebrated its centenary.
